Greenacres was founded in 1923 when Lawrence Carter Swain and his family moved to this area from Massachusetts.
In contrast to the town of Palm Beach with its focus on the wealthy, Swain had the objective of providing a community for the middle class. |

During its history, Greenacres City survived two devastating hurricanes.
The first hit on September 19, 1926, the second almost two years later on September 16, 1928.
Both virtually destroyed the city but the recovery efforts brought the community together.

Today, Greenacres takes pride in its sense of community as well as its programs that make it "A Good Place to Live". |
